Pumpkins carved from 2008

1998 - 2001  2002 - 2004   2005   2006   2007   2008   2009   2010   2011 - 2013   2014 - ?

The pumpkins you find on these pages were either done by Rich & Flo Newman (aka TagYerit) or sent in by friends & contributors. There are easily more than 10 pages by now, so give  yourself plenty of time to explore the vast range of wonderful creations assembled here!

  "The Other Candidate from Illinois"

We did this as part of our political series. This was from a photo of Lincoln in 1858 during the "Lincoln Douglas" senatorial debates. We're going to keep the politics off this page, but for our liberal left leaning pumpkin carvings, go here. By the way, one of our older political pumpkin pics won an online web contest in 2008

  The "A-Maze-Ing Pumpkin"

Here's one for all you game loving players. How quickly can you get through the maze to the middle? How many of the game pieces can you identify? (that's really more a matter of our carving skills [or lack of] than anything)

"That Puzzled Look"

Carving on the flip side of the A-Maze-Ing Puzzle. This guy ended up looking like Benjamin Grimm (aka The Thing from The Fantastic Four) which leads me to think that he'd look great on a pumpkin someday.

Darrell Dawson is 24, living in the small town of Grants Pass, Oregon. He got this pumpkin down at Rays grocery store. It was their last one. "I used four different kitchen knives. I have found them to work better then anything else." This is only  the third pumpkin that Darrell has carved, other than the standard jack o lantern. Darrell adds," I can't wait until next year. I am going to do some crazy pumpkins now that I have the whole carving thing down."

These are 5 shots of the SAME pumpkin. Depending on your point of view and the lighting, he takes on many different charcteristics. We can't wait to see what Darrell comes up with next year either.

Skyler from Virginia sent in this carved pumpkin featuring Lynyrd Skynyrd's Logo. I'm not sure how he was able to keep the lettering in place, but it obviously works well.

Rick Chong sent in the pics from this year's batch of pumpkins: including Heath Ledger's Joker, Dr. Jeckyl AND Mr. Hyde, The Phantom of the Opera & Christing, Frankenstein and more. To see them in more detail visit Rick's page (which also includes great design tips)

John Vickers Self PortraitJohn Vickers (self portrait left) presents an annual fundraiser with carved foam pumpkins. They take him longer but it's allowed him to add more every year. "I''ve been doing it for eleven years, now have over 500 carvings in forty or so themed displays. I use over 1,000 black milk crates to arrange the displays together at various heights and use outdoor xmas light strands, thousands of yards worth. About 30,000 people come and vist each year."

Leah Rowland sent in her witch from last year. Leah says she's a beginner and they take her FOREVER, but she loves carving them.

Ryoko Hull wrote us, "After visiting you page for quite a while, I had decided to try to carve a pumpkin the way you guys have it here, with different depths to make shaded areas and such. The coyote with a moon was carved free hand ... I've always liked the coyote design from my aunt's blanket. It used to glow in the dark so i always remembered it. Also the moon reminds me of the Starry Night Moon, again, something I had always liked."

" This year my husband and i will buy 4 pumpkins, 2 each and find out what we can do. I really don't plan it, just do it free hand of whatever pops into my head"

The two pictures show how the light through the tail looks different depending on the angle of viewing.
