Around Easter time, rabbit awareness always increases. Unfortunately some of it creates problems. Here are some "thoughts " I received, while researching a 60 second PSA (public service announcement) to address this issue.

A pet (bunny) is a lifetime commitment
from the Chicago House Rabbit Society
"Easter bunnies...Used only once " Don't buy an Easter Bunny this year. Adopt a companion instead. Consider "stuffing " a House Rabbit Handbook and a "faux " fur bunny in someone's Easter basket this year. Adopt after Easter and after reading the book, will save a life.
What follows is the script I used for a 60 second psa... (feel free to adapt it to your organisation.)

WARNING...Due to the graphic nature of this Announcement. Parental Discretion is advised.
ONE LOOK at this soft and furry bunny, may tempt you to buy her for your child
BUT WAIT...

The House Rabbit Society estimates that up to 90 percent of all bunnies bought as pets for children, die of poor care or are abandoned in shelters where they may be euthanized.

ASK YOURSELF
Am I willing to love and care for her, her whole life.
In spite of their often sweet natures, rabbits do scratch and bite. A child at play and an active bunny's needs usually don't coincide.
Will your child's rabbit be pleading from a shelter within six months?
A pet rabbit can be an addition to your whole family. But only if you know the amount of work and care she needs and deserves.
